Hello/hola. I’m a Texas-born/ Mexico-raised/ Minnesota-resident girl who loves to travel whenever she can. I love to dance (even while choosing groceries at the supermarket). When I need to meditate I take a bike ride or go to the movie theater (yes, by myself). Even though I’m not an artist or a designer, these are subjects that I’m really passionate about. I’m very easy going, yet need precise instructions since I’m a very organized person… in other words, I’m a control freak who loves to flow. Life motto? All of them! And here’s how I got the idead to travel more than a 2-week vacation: Once I heard on the movie ‘Persepolis’: “Holidays are crumbs to keep the proles happy’… Somehow the Spanish subtitles made it even more nostalgic: “Las vacaciones no son más que migajas de libertad”, something like “Vacations are only crumbs of freedom”. That movie line would remain in my head for a long time. That along with the forever teen-dream of traveling to new and exciting places got me the idea that vacations aren’t enough. The question ‘Why not?’ popped in my head last summer (2013) as I was on a bus from my home town, Camargo to Chihuahua. Spotify’s on shuffle and Modest Mouse’s “The World At Large” came as a cheerleader creating a ‘Meant to be’ fantasy:
If the world’s at large, why should I remain?
Walked away to another plan.
Gonna find another place, maybe one I can stand.
I move on to another day, to a whole new town with a whole new way.
So, after years of people inviting me over to their home towns around the world, you know that polite invitation where people who moved to a tiny town in Germany or Switzerland would say to you “You’re welcome anytime”, well, I’m not gonna take all of those invitations throughout the years for granted. Besides, I’m a Millennial; I’m supposed to do things like that, right? There’s no reason why I can’t go and travel. After a year of saving little by little, dropping take-out, spending smarter, and researching about a career break, the mental journey had already begun.
By a leap of fate, I read an article called Why an extended break can be a good career move… it blew me away. All the of the feelings and ideas through my mind had to get in action. I started reading more and more about this ‘Career Break’ thing: 5 Reasons you should go backpacking before you turn 30 (I´m 29) and the one that made my heart smile Why a Travel Break Can Be the Best Career Move You’ll Ever Make. It’s the kind of motivation I just needed. I found very useful information.
