Girl Road Trip in Germany

A couple of years ago I went to Germany and stayed for a week with a dear friend who is from the state of Chihuahua just like me. My friend Miri lives in a small town near Hanover with her beautiful daughter and her sweet dog. We decided we'd go every day to a different town and one of our other friends, Mirta, who lives in Magdeburg would join us on the journey.

We did this trip with a toddler who behaved wonderfully, a dog and an adult who recently had had knee surgery and was in a wheelchair. Our travel abilities were tested and we did it all with a big smile on our faces.

People kept staring at us, hopefully they thought of us as brave and not as a mess!

So, 3½ ladies from Northern Mexico, a dog and a wheelchair... vamonos!

We visited the next places:

Magdeburg

Our trip started in Magdeburg where we picked up Mirta and she showed us around her beautiful town. We visited the oldest Gothic cathedral there is in Germany.

At the Magdeburg Cathedral. This is the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany.

In contrast to the gray cathedral there's a colorful building close to it called The Green Citadel of Magdeburg and it's actually pink.

Berlin

This was the first time I was on the Autobahn where there's no speed limit and I have to congratulate Miri who's an amazing driver!

This was my second time in Berlin in the same month and I'm glad we did it because Miri told me to go to the top of the Berlin Cathedral. The view speak for itself.

Beautiful view of Berlin from the top of the Berlin Cathedral

Braunshweig

Or Brunswick. When I was told the place we were about to enter was a mall and not a museum I was awe, it was the mall with the most beautiful facade I had ever seen: Schloss Arkaden. And again we bumped into the situation of another building serving as contrast, the Rizzi House, which is said to be the happiest house in the world, but in reality is used as office spaces.

Goslar

A very picturesque town with the largest number of half-timbered houses in Germany, 1800 of them!

And while being in the area we visited Miri's good friend Bärbel Link. She's a professional Yodel singer. She even sang for us and to me this was the most amazing experience in Germany!

We had a wonderful evening and it was one of my favorite days in Germany. This is a trip I'll never forget, it represents to me Girl Power and the enthusiasm and optimism that characterizes us Mexican people. Danke Deutschland and thank you Miri and Mirta for being such troopers!
