Mid-October was the best time to visit New Ulm, MN because of the beautiful fall colors and the celebration held in the town for Oktoberfest.
I visited with my family the Schell's Brewery's Oktoberfest celebration, and being this our first time we were mesmerized and would love to go every year.
Afterwards we visited Hermann the German's monument. Hermann led the Cherusci tribe into battle with the Romans in 9AD and defeated them. To Germany he symbolizes liberty and unity.
One can climb the monument and see New Ulm from above and the view is breathtaking.
I learned about this monument to him in New Ulm thanks to Atlas Obscura.
A new tradition has begun to visit New Ulm every Oktober! :)
