When I visited New York last year I was determined to go and see the structure of certain building I heard about on my favorite Podcast 99% Invisible on the episode Structural Integrity. If you've never listened to this Podcast I invite you to do so, it'll make the geek inside of you really happy .
While staying in Brooklyn I could see Manhattan's beautiful skyline, like beautiful giants next to each other looking even more beautiful as more and more of them lined up. And as I turned my eyes from left to right there it was, a metallic giant with what seems a caricaturesque Robin Hood hat, called CitiGroup Center.
On Lexington and 53rd I was able to admire the most interesting part of this giant and it's not its beautiful top right-angled slope, but its feet. The 59-story building actually stands on strong stilts on the center of the base.
And maybe my description comes short, but please take a look.
And it's because of 99pi that I knew about this structure, and what's even more fascinating is the whole story they tell about basically the re-structure of the already constructed masterpiece. I just beg you to listen to it, you'll have some of the best 25 minutes of your geek life.
Thank you Roman Mars for such a wonderful story and for making me read the plaque.
